High Quality Engineered
vs
3/4″ Solid Oak Flooring
“The biggest misconception that most people have is that an engineered flooring material is either not real wood, or is an inferior product because it’s not a solid material. The truth is that engineered wood flooring is much more sustainable than solid wood. It’s more stable, in that there is less expansion and contraction caused by temperature and moisture that could otherwise result in unwanted cracks between planks, particularly with the use of a wide plank flooring. Wide plank is most of what we’re installing today. The photo above shows the wear layer of both an engineered plank and a solid 3/4“plank. The wear layer on the engineered plank will give you just as much room to sand as the solid. This does not apply to every engineered floor. It depends on the millimeter thickness of your wear layer. We recommend at least a 4mm wear layer. A 4mm wear layer allows you to refinish your engineered floors at least twice over the life of the flooring.”

About Us
Here at DG we have worked in the flooring business for 36 years. We work with many local contractors, designers, and home owners all over the Bay Area. We pride ourselves as being a family run business. Dennis learned the trade from his father Richard while growing up. He then started his own business in 1982, and is now joined by his two sons, Shaun and Chad who are vital to the everyday operations of the business. We also have several dedicated employees that have been with us for many years that are also vital to our success, so put you trust in us and let us create beautiful custom hardwood floors to transform your home.
Cheers to my Dad,
He came over from Hawaii in 1956 and his first job was with a Hardwood Company where he showed up barefoot and worked for several weeks before being told he had to wear shoes at work. He worked for 20 years for that company before taking a job working for a general contractor where he learned to build and remodel houses before going on his own.
In the early 80’s he helped me start my own flooring company before retiring to Oregon in the late 90’s.
Here he is today at 89 turning 90 on 10/13/23, still working on his own property maintaining 17 acres, building decks, fixing his roof, and running an edger, never having any shoulder, back, or knee problems requiring surgery. Unlike myself already having all of the above before the age of 66.
He says its key for him to work through whatever aches and pains he has and not give into them and stay active.
Always was and still an inspiration to me.
